Home Care Instructions
Endodontic treatment for this tooth has now been completed. The root canals have been permanently sealed. However, the outer surface is only sealed with a temporary filling. PLEASE PHONE YOUR DENTIST FOR AN APPOINTMENT. YOUR DENTIST MUST PLACE A PERMANENT RESTORATION to protect your tooth against fracture and decay. Delay in obtaining this permanent restoration may place your tooth in jeopardy. Crowns are recommended for posterior teeth and weakened anterior teeth. The tooth may be tender to tapping or biting after completion of the root treatment as a result of the manipulation during treatment.
Symptoms are usually the worst during the first week. Avoid chewing on this tooth, if possible, until you return to your dentist. Chewing on the tooth before the permanent restoration is place can cause the tooth to fracture and require extraction. If needed, take 3-4 ibuprofen wait one hour then take two Tylenol. Continue every 6-8 hours as needed. Rinse the tooth with hot salt water. A level teaspoon of ordinary salt in a glass full of warm tap water, as hot as you can comfortably tolerate, is the right combination. Should there be extreme discomfort that persists or swelling develop, please contact our oce.
